Liberian National Remanded Over Alleged Theft in Freetown

A Liberian national, James Jortu, has been remanded at the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown by Magistrate John Manso Fornah of Pademba Road Court No. 2. He was charged with one count of Larceny, contrary to Section 2 of the Larceny Act of 1916.

According to the particulars of offence, on Thursday, 4 June 2026, at Crab Town Junction, Lumley in the Western Area of Freetown, the accused allegedly stole by trick the sum of one hundred and sixty Leones and one Samsung Galaxy A52 mobile phone valued at three thousand Leones, bringing the total value to three thousand one hundred and sixty Leones (Le 3,160). The items are said to be the property of Damu Munda.

When the charge was read and explained to the defendant, he pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Deputy Superintendent of Police Sorie Conteh, informed the court that he had served the defendant with a copy of the case file and inquiry documents.

The defendant acknowledged receipt of the documents.

Meanwhile, Magistrate Fornah refused bail and ordered that the defendant be remanded at the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown. The matter was adjourned to 25 June 2026.
