Two drivers have been sentenced to five years’ imprisonment each by Magistrate Mustapha Brima Jah of Pademba Road Court No. 1 in Freetown after pleading guilty to charges of conspiracy and larceny involving the theft of cement belonging to Fawaz Building Materials.
The convicts, 32-year-old Hassan Kamara and 34-year-old Daniel Karim Jalloh, were charged with two counts of conspiracy contrary to law and larceny contrary to Section 2 of the Larceny Act of 1916.
According to the particulars of the offence, between 1st and 30th June 2026 in Freetown, Western Area, the two accused persons conspired with other individuals unknown to commit a felony, namely larceny.
The second count stated that during the same period and at the same location, the first accused, with intent to steal, stole 2,040 bags of cement valued at Four Hundred and Eight Thousand Leones (Le408,000), the property of Hamid Hajj Fawaz.
When the charges were read and explained to them, both accused persons pleaded guilty.
Prosecuting the matter, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Eric A. Deen Esq. informed the court that the facts were consistent with the charges and confirmed that both convicts had no previous criminal records. He described them as first-time offenders.
The convicts were not legally represented in court and appealed to the magistrate to temper justice with mercy.
In his ruling, Magistrate Jah said he had considered the plea of mitigation from the convicts, the prosecutor’s submission that they were first-time offenders, their guilty plea, and the fact that they did not waste the court’s time.
He subsequently sentenced both men to five years’ imprisonment each at the Male Correctional Centre in Freetown.
