Ministry of Social Welfare and UNICEF aimed at strengthening protection systems for families across the country.
The Minister of Social Welfare, Melrose Karminty Kargbo, and UNICEF Representative Rudolf Schwenk met to discuss practical steps toward improving social services and expanding family support nationwide.
During the meeting, both parties identified three key priorities necessary to transform progress into measurable impact.
The priority is strengthening the workforce. Both sides emphasized the need to build the capacity of social service providers so they can reach more families effectively and deliver higher-quality support.
The second priority is developing inclusive systems. Discussions focused on ensuring that social services are accessible to all families, particularly vulnerable groups, without barriers or gaps in support.
The third priority is improving data and evidence systems. Better information and stronger data collection were highlighted as essential for guiding policy decisions, monitoring outcomes, and ensuring that resources are directed where they are needed most.
The discussions were guided by the message, “From Progress to Impact,” underscoring the importance of moving beyond policy discussions to achieving tangible results for children and families. The engagement also reflected the shared commitment behind the campaign message, “#ForEveryChild,” which emphasizes equal support and protection for every child and family in Sierra Leone.
The meeting between the Ministry of Social Welfare and UNICEF represents a coordinated effort to align strategies around workforce development, inclusive service delivery, and evidence-based decision-making.
According to participants, the goal is to ensure that families across Sierra Leone receive consistent protection, care, and support through stronger institutions and more effective social service systems.
