SLPHA Deploys Ferry Services to Support ECOWAS Mid-Year Summit

The Sierra Leone Ports and Harbours Authority (SLPHA), under the leadership of Director General Yankuba Askia Bio, has deployed ferry services to facilitate the movement of delegates, government officials, and invited guests attending the 2026 ECOWAS Mid-Year Summit in Lungi.

As Sierra Leone hosts the high-level regional gathering, SLPHA has strengthened its ferry operations to ensure the smooth, safe, and efficient transportation of passengers across the Freetown-Lungi waterway. The initiative highlights the Authority’s commitment to supporting national events of regional and international importance.

A large banner displayed aboard one of the SLPHA ferries welcomes the ECOWAS delegation to Sierra Leone and features President Dr. Julius Maada Bio, Minister of Transport and Aviation Alhaji Fanday Turay, and SLPHA Director General Yankuba Askia Bio, symbolising the Authority’s contribution to the successful hosting of the summit.

Under the leadership of DG Yankuba Askia Bio, SLPHA has continued to strengthen its role as a key partner in national development by improving port and ferry operations while providing essential logistical support during major state occasions.

The provision of dedicated ferry services has enhanced the movement of summit participants, ensuring timely and convenient access to the venue in Lungi while demonstrating Sierra Leone’s preparedness to host significant regional engagements.

The initiative reflects SLPHA’s commitment to providing safe, reliable, and efficient maritime transport services while showcasing Sierra Leone’s hospitality to distinguished guests from across the ECOWAS region.

Stakeholders have commended the proactive leadership of DG Yankuba Askia Bio, noting that his focus on operational efficiency and improved customer service has contributed to strengthening public confidence in the Authority. His leadership has not only enhanced ferry operations but has also played a role in promoting Sierra Leone’s image during one of West Africa’s most important diplomatic gatherings.
