Sierra Leone’s Senior Men’s Cricket Team, the Men’s Patriots, secured a six-wicket victory over Ghana on Tuesday at the Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos, ending a five-month wait for a win.
Sierra Leone’s disciplined bowling and fielding restricted Ghana to 85 runs for the loss of eight wickets in 20 overs.
In reply, the Men’s Patriots chased down the target in 18.1 overs, scoring 86 runs for the loss of four wickets to seal a six-wicket victory.
The result puts Sierra Leone in a strong position in several individual statistical categories in the ongoing six-day Nigeria T20 Quadrangular Series.
Pace bowler George Sesay currently leads the Most Valuable Player standings, followed by teammate Alusine Sesay.
Sesay also leads the bowling statistics, having taken four wickets in two innings at an economy rate of 4.62 and an average of 9.25. He has also recorded 13 dot balls.
Eric Musa Sesay leads the fielding statistics after recording four dismissals in two matches.
Sierra Leone will face hosts Nigeria on Wednesday as they seek to level the head-to-head score in the tournament.
