President Julius Maada Bio has officially commissioned the long-anticipated Bandajuma-Pujehun Road, marking the completion of a transformative infrastructure project that has been in the pipeline for over a decade.

The commissioning ceremony, held in Pujehun District, formed part of a broader rollout of development initiatives in the area, reinforcing the government’s commitment to expanding infrastructure beyond the capital and into underserved regions.

The Bandajuma-Pujehun Road, which had been under consideration and construction for approximately 15 years, was a longstanding concern for residents due to repeated delays across successive administrations. Its completion is now widely regarded as a major breakthrough for the district.

President Bio, accompanied by a high-level delegation including First Lady Fatima Bio and Chief Minister David Moinina Sengeh, described the project as a cornerstone of his government’s inclusive development agenda.

In his keynote address, the President emphasized that meaningful and sustainable national development requires time, consistency, and deliberate investment. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to prioritizing critical infrastructure projects aimed at improving the lives of citizens across all regions of the country.

In addition to the road commissioning, President Bio unveiled the newly constructed Clock Tower at Gobaru Section, a structure that residents say reflects both cultural identity and forward-looking development aspirations.

The upgraded Makibi Bridge was also officially opened, with authorities highlighting its role in enhancing mobility, easing transportation challenges, and strengthening connectivity among surrounding communities.

The event attracted large crowds of residents, many of whom expressed relief and excitement at the completion of the long-delayed project. Speaking at the ceremony, local resident Mohamed Rogers described the road as a “transformational development” that will improve economic and social activities within the district.

For many in Pujehun, the commissioning represents more than just the completion of a project it marks a long-awaited milestone signaling a new chapter in the district’s development. After years of limited access due to poor road conditions, the Bandajuma-Pujehun Road now stands as a landmark achievement, expected to drive growth and improve livelihoods across the region.
