The Ministry of Technical and Higher Education (MTHE) has engaged TAF Africa Global in discussions aimed at exploring private sector support to address student accommodation challenges across Sierra Leone.

The engagement, held on 25 May 2026, brought together officials of the Ministry and Mustapha Njie as part of ongoing efforts to respond to the increasing demand for student housing amid expanding access to tertiary education nationwide.

Speaking during the meeting, the Minister of Technical and Higher Education, Dr. Haja Ramatulai Wurie, underscored the need for student accommodation to keep pace with rising enrolment in higher education institutions.

She stated that safe and affordable accommodation remains essential for promoting equity, improving student retention, and enhancing academic performance.

“As we expand access to tertiary education in Sierra Leone, we must ensure that student housing keeps pace with enrolment growth,” Dr. Wurie said, noting that accommodation is fundamental to students’ academic success.

The Minister further stressed the importance of public-private partnerships in delivering sustainable housing solutions for students, adding that the government welcomes private sector investment in purpose-built, environmentally friendly, and climate-resilient accommodation facilities.

“This is a space where public-private partnerships can deliver real impact,” she remarked.

Dr. Wurie also assured stakeholders of the Ministry’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for investment and innovation within the sector.

She expressed optimism that continued collaboration with the private sector would help ensure that no student is disadvantaged due to accommodation challenges.
