The Motema Police Division in Nimikoro Chiefdom, Kono District, on Thursday, 2 July 2026, officially handed over the remains of the late Alie Turay, a murder victim, to his family following the completion of an autopsy examination.
The remains of the deceased were recently discovered between Dombadu and Gbetwema villages in Nimiyama Chiefdom, Kono District, beside a stream. The formal handover took place during a laying-out ceremony held at Matonkor Village, Konikay Sanda Chiefdom, Tonkolili District.
According to the police, the burial arrangement followed the successful completion of forensic and medical examinations conducted on the body.
The Media and Community Relations Officer of the Motema Police Division, Thompson Peter Ndapi, said the Local Unit Commander, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Alimamy G. Sesay, and his team were warmly received by the bereaved family, community stakeholders, and members of the Bike Riders Union.
Speaking on behalf of the bereaved family, Pa Kapri, father of the deceased, expressed profound appreciation to the Sierra Leone Police for their professionalism, dedication, and continued support throughout the investigation. He commended the division for its commitment to ensuring that justice is served.
Representing the Bike Riders Union of Konikay Sanda Chiefdom, Chairman Sorie Fofanah reaffirmed the union’s commitment to upholding the law, maintaining peace, and discouraging all forms of violence among its members.
Councillor Kebbie, speaking on behalf of the people of Nimiyama Chiefdom, expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended heartfelt condolences and apologies to the bereaved family and the Bike Riders Union. He called for continued peace, unity, and reconciliation among the affected communities.
Addressing mourners, LUC Alimamy G. Sesay described the incident as a case of murder and urged community members to continue cooperating with the police by providing credible information to support the ongoing investigation.
He assured the public and the bereaved family that the police remain committed to conducting a swift, thorough, and impartial investigation to ensure that all perpetrators are brought to justice. He also encouraged residents to remain calm, law-abiding, and to refrain from any acts of retaliation.
On behalf of the Inspector General of Police, the Assistant Inspector General of Police, the Executive Management Board, and the Regional Police Commander (East), LUC Sesay presented a token of Le500 to the bereaved family as a gesture of sympathy and solidarity during their time of grief.
