In a significant gesture of support for education, Hon. Dr. Sidie Mohamed Tunis, former Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament has on Thursday 28th November 2024 donated 10,000 United States Dollars to Fourah Bay College for pavement and solarization.
The donation was a fulfilment to a compelling appeal made by the Deputy Registrar of Fourah Bay College (FBC). The cash donation of $10,000 was handed over to the FBC Student Union President, Alfred M. Sesay, during a ceremony at the college.
The funds are earmarked for two transformative projects. the pavement of key pathways and the installation of solar lighting across the Fourah Bay College campus. These initiatives aim to enhance the learning environment for students, faculty, and all campus users, ensuring a safer and more accessible space.
During the handing over, Dr. Tunis underscored the urgency of implementing these projects, calling on the student leadership and administration to commence work immediately. “A conducive learning environment is fundamental to academic excellence, and I am delighted to contribute to this vision for FBC,” he remarked.
The donation ceremony coincided with the unveiling of other significant infrastructural improvements at FBC, including the newly constructed bus stop (referred to as “airport”) and the campus’s upgraded entrance and exit gates—both also sponsored by Dr. Tunis.
Dr. Tunis’s continued support for education and infrastructural development at Fourah Bay College has been lauded as a remarkable demonstration of his commitment to empowering future generations. The projects promise to leave a lasting legacy on one of Sierra Leone’s most iconic institutions.
This latest contribution reaffirms his dedication to creating a sustainable and conducive academic environment, strengthening his reputation as a champion of progress and education in Sierra Leone.
