Samuel Turay, a deaf and dumb man, together with five other accused persons, on Wednesday, 4 June 2026, made another appearance before Justice Alfred Ganda at High Court No. 2 in Freetown over the alleged murder of James Conteh.
The co-defendants are Hassan Kamara, Fatmata Turay, Braima Kamara, Brima Tarawalie, and Abubakar Kamara.
The six accused persons are standing trial on two counts: Conspiracy to Murder, contrary to Section 4 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861, and Murder, contrary to Section 1 of the same Act.
According to the indictment, all six defendants allegedly conspired on 1 March 2024 in Freetown to murder James Conteh.
The indictment further alleges that on the same date and at the same location, the defendants unlawfully murdered James Conteh.
When the matter came up for hearing, State Counsel Koroma applied for an adjournment to enable the prosecution’s second witness to testify before the court.
The court was informed that the prosecution’s first witness, Chernor Kamara, had already testified and was cross-examined by defence counsel J. Kofi and Chernor Kamara.
Following the application, Justice Ganda adjourned the matter and ordered that all six defendants remain in custody.
The case was adjourned to 10 June 2026 for the continuation of proceedings.
