President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, Retired Brigadier Dr. Julius Maada Bio, has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to economic reforms during a high-level meeting with Christin Saborowski and her delegation from the International Monetary Fund.

The meeting, held in Freetown, focused on Sierra Leone’s progress under the ongoing Extended Credit Facility (ECF) and discussions on accessing the Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF).

President Bio emphasized his administration’s dedication to maintaining prudent economic policies and implementing agreed reforms.

“I assured the IMF team of my government’s commitment to maintaining prudent economic policies and implementing the reforms agreed under the ECF and RSF,” he stated.

The ECF programme supports Sierra Leone’s macroeconomic stability and structural reforms. The ongoing third review will determine continued disbursements under the programme. Meanwhile, negotiations on the RSF are aimed at securing additional support to address long-term challenges, including climate resilience.

The IMF delegation, led by Ms. Saborowski, is in Sierra Leone to assess the country’s performance under the ECF and to advance discussions on the RSF. These engagements are part of the IMF’s regular review process and broader efforts to support sustainable economic development.

President Bio reiterated that his government remains fully committed to the reform agenda tied to both facilities. He stressed that maintaining fiscal discipline and advancing structural reforms are key priorities as the country works closely with the IMF.

The ongoing discussions reflect continued collaboration between Sierra Leone and the IMF, focusing on economic stability, reform implementation, and long-term resilience financing.
