For more than two decades Wintrade Global Women in Business Network has sponsored over 25,000 women as way of dedication to supporting, developing and celebrating women in business across the globe. The summit was held from 13th-15th March 2023 at the House of Commons, Llyods of London, the House of Llyods and the London Stock Exchange in UK.
The theme of the summit was “From Ideation and Realization: Delivering prosperity through continental trade”. The event aimed at encouraging women entrepreneurs to drive prosperity through inter-continental and to connect women globally to decision-makers for opportunities and to celebrate women in leadership.
In her key note speech, Tuma Adama Gento-Kamara expressed that her story relates with the struggle of the African women which is framed in resilience, ecstasy, beauty, culture, fashion and spirituality. And as such, acknowledged the importance of supporting women in their businesses across the continent and Sierra Leone in particular. She further highlighted the many good structures built by the Government of Sierra Leone to ensure the growth of women in their various fields of work which is evident in the enacted Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment Act 2022. She therefore stated that prior to the enactment of this act, women were underrepresented in parliament and other elective positions in the local government.
She further referenced the immense progress which the National Revenue Authority has made in ensuring women representation at management level as well as other facilities they have provided for women under her leadership as the Chairperson for the Board of Directors. Mrs. Gento-Kamara mentioned that herself and her husband Mohamed Gento-Kamara have been quite supportive towards women led businesses for a very long time.
Other speakers which included top executives, entrepreneurs and thought of leaders from various industries, including finance, technology, healthcare and education shared their respective experiences and as well offered practical advice on overcoming challenges to succeed in the global business arena.
