The Sierra Leone Lawn Tennis Association has on Monday 11th October 2021 landed safely in Benin ahead of the U-12 Championship that is set to kick starts from the 12 to the 16th October 2021 in Benin.
According to the President of the Sierra Leone Lawn Tennis Association Kelvin Ezekiel, they have send a group of five Lawn Tennis players one coach and two Officials to Benin to represent the Country in the ITS Lawn Tennis tournament .
He added that the Athletes that went were selected base on their track records in series of test matches and performance, the technical team decided to select them for the tournament.
Last year the Sierra Leone Lawn Tennis Association grabbed Silver medals and base on that the organizers decided to called on Sierra Leone.
” I did not believe in participation but rather to be more competitive, last year’s we were competitive and set a good record there by defeating the host Nation Benin and won Silver medicals, but these time around we are sure of winning the gold medals and bring the trophy back home.” Kelvin Ezekiel Kele furthered.
He thanks the coaches who are giving selfless work to train the Athletes even without Salaries.
He affirmed that the trip is fully founded by the Association and it has been three years they are yet to get Government support even when they have engaged the Ministry of Sports and National Sports Authority abut funding but to no avail.
“That is not going to stop us without representing this Country, even if we are to eat Gari we are going to do our best to represent this Country, he therefore called on Government to pay more attention to other Sporting disciplines in the Country but they are only concerned about t Football.
He called on Government to pay more attention to other Sporting disciplines, because a lot of them are doing extremely good and winning medals.
He asks Sierra Leoneans to keep remembering the team in their prayers at the tournament.
