Sierra Leone’s Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh on Wednesday engaged the Sierra Leonean community in Guinea at the Sierra Leone Embassy in Conakry as part of his two-day working visit.
Speaking on behalf of President Julius Maada Bio and the Government of Sierra Leone, the Vice President conveyed condolences to the Government and people of Guinea following the Dar-es-Salam landfill incident.
He thanked the Guinean Government for its support to Sierra Leoneans affected by the tragedy, noting that assistance was provided without discrimination. He also donated 200 bags of rice and cash assistance to affected and displaced Sierra Leoneans.
The Vice President also updated the community on his engagements with the Guinean Prime Minister and explained that his visit was part of efforts to follow up on discussions between Sierra Leone and Guinea on border security. He said President Bio had earlier met with the Guinean President alongside the Vice President of Liberia to discuss security along the borders, aimed at strengthening peace and stability between the two countries.
During an interactive session, chaired by the Minister of Information and Civic Education, Chernor Bah, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jeneba Bangura, Minister of Internal Affairs, Morie Lengor, Minister of Labour, Umaru Napoleon Koroma and the leadership of the Embassy, Sierra Leoneans in Guinea expressed appreciation to the Vice President for meeting with them and for the assistance provided to those affected by the Dar-es-Salam incident as well as other groups and stakeholders.
