Daniel Yankuba, an intelligence officer attached to State House, has been granted bail by Magistrate John Manso Fornah of Pademba Road Court No. 2 in Freetown on a charge of fraudulent conversion, contrary to Section 20(1) (i) (iv) of the Larceny Act, 1916.
According to the particulars of the offence, between June 1 and June 30, 2026, at No. 10 Taylor Drive, off IMATT, in Freetown, the defendant allegedly fraudulently converted to his own use or benefit a TVS HLX 125 motorcycle, with registration number AZU 191, valued at NLe35, 000.
The motorcycle was allegedly entrusted to him by Raymond Taylor for intelligence-gathering purposes and safekeeping. The property was said to belong to the Intelligence Department at State House in Freetown.
When the charge was read and explained to the defendant, no plea was taken as the matter is before the court for committal proceedings.
The prosecutor, Inspector Theresa Ballay, informed the court that she had served defence counsel with a copy of the case and inquiry file.
Defence counsel, S. Sandy Esq., subsequently applied for bail on behalf of the defendant pursuant to Section 76(1) (c) of the Criminal Procedure Act, 2024.
Magistrate Fornah granted the defendant bail in the sum of NLe50, 000, with one surety in like sum. The surety is required to produce a valid identification card, while the bail is subject to approval by the Deputy Assistant Registrar.
The matter was adjourned to October 28, 2026.
