Thirty-three-year-old Margret Frazer, a nurse, has been remanded at the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown by Magistrate John Manso Fornah of Pademba Road Court No. 2 on two counts of obtaining money by false pretences, contrary to Section 32(1) of the Larceny Act 1916.
According to the particulars of offence, on diverse dates between August 10 and 15, 2026, at Leicester, Tree Planting Area, in the Western Area of Freetown, Frazer allegedly obtained Le14, 451 from Kadiatu Kanu with intent to defraud.
The prosecution alleged that Frazer falsely pretended that her adopted mother, Yvonne Bobbie Frazer, who resides in the United Kingdom, had sent a container of goods that needed to be cleared at Water Quay, knowing the representation to be false.
Count two further alleged that on August 28, 2026, at Sumaila Town, in the Western Area of Freetown, the defendant obtained Le9, 500 from Mustapha Sesay under the same alleged false pretence concerning a container of goods purportedly sent by her adopted mother for clearance at Water Quay.
When the charges were read and explained to the defendant, no plea was taken, as the matter is before the court for committal proceedings.
The prosecutor, DPC 18235 Kebbie K. Thoronka, informed the court that he had served the defendant with copies of the case and inquiry files. He also applied for subpoenas to be issued for the absent prosecution witnesses.
Frazer, who was not legally represented, acknowledged receiving copies of the case and inquiry files.
Magistrate Fornah refused bail, citing the seriousness of the alleged offences, and adjourned the matter to October 28, 2026.
