Pastor Yatta Samura, the founder of Sports Life Ministry Sierra Leone, expressed his excitement about the upcoming Jog for Jesus event, which has seen tremendous success in previous years.
“We launched the Jog for Jesus in 2000, and it has grown to become the largest event of its kind,” he stated. “The turnout has been remarkable, with numerous churches, denominations, sports clubs, organizations, and community members participating. The event has attracted many dignitaries, including pastors, lawyers, bishops, government ministers, and members of parliament. It has received significant media coverage, with national TV and radio still discussing it.”
Over the years, the ministry has printed 750 T-shirts for participants and encourages attendees to wear their church T-shirts, as supplies were limited. Pastor Samura noted that friends contributed to the T-shirt design, publicity efforts, and the PA system for the closing ceremony. He reminisced about the first Jog, which took place 15 years ago and was attended by the current president.
“This event welcomes individuals from all walks of life, regardless of age, race, or religion. We have seen participation from many Muslims as well,” he added.
This year’s Jog for Jesus is scheduled for Saturday, April 19, 2025. Participants from the western area will start at Collegiate School, while those from the eastern side will begin at Annie Walsh. Both groups will converge at Hannah Benka Coker Street and jog along Styke Street, crossing the Kingtom Bridge to St. Edward’s Secondary School, where prayers will be offered and messages shared by various individuals.
