Street Child has officially confirmed Sunday, May 4, 2025, as race day for the highly anticipated 2025 Sierra Leone Marathon, with a significant increase in star prizes for winners across all race categories.

This announcement was made by Race Director Alusine Kanu during a stakeholder meeting held on Monday, April 7, 2025, at Street Child’s Makeni office on Thaimu Bangura Street. The meeting brought together representatives from various sectors to boost preparations for what promises to be another successful edition of the annual marathon.

Kanu also announced that registration is now open nationwide at Street Child Sierra Leone offices, including the Makeni branch, and can also be completed via Afrimoney.

“In addition to trophies and medals, we have set aside attractive cash prizes for the four main race events, totaling NLe 40,000,” Kanu stated.

Meanwhile, Mark Maughan, Global Challenges Manager of Street Child, announced a slight increase in registration fees for Sierra Leonean participants—the first in over a decade. The new fees are as follows:

Maughan encouraged local runners to register early, emphasizing that this year’s marathon will be exceptional, with major corporate sponsors such as Africell and Marampa Mines Limited (MML) already on board.

With higher stakes, increased rewards, and strong partnerships, the 2025 Street Child Sierra Leone Marathon is shaping up to be a landmark event in the country’s sporting calendar.
