The Executive Director of the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA), Mr. James Bagie Bio, has held a high-level meeting with Nigeria’s High Commissioner to Sierra Leone, Her Excellency Ambassador Ayo Luther-Ogbomode, at the Nigeria High Commission in Freetown.
The engagement forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen cooperation between Sierra Leone and Nigeria in the area of road safety, with emphasis on knowledge sharing, institutional collaboration, capacity building, and the adoption of best practices aimed at creating safer roads and reducing road traffic crashes.
The meeting comes amid growing road safety cooperation between the two countries. In July 2026, the SLRSA and Nigeria’s Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to deepen collaboration in road safety management, training, research, data-driven interventions, vehicle administration, public sensitisation, and enforcement.
During the meeting, Executive Director Bio expressed appreciation for Nigeria’s continued support and expertise in road safety management. He highlighted the importance of strong partnerships in addressing the common challenge of road traffic crashes.
Mr. Bio also acknowledged the significant role played by Nigeria’s Federal Road Safety Corps in providing a model that has contributed to the transformation and strengthening of Sierra Leone’s road safety institutions. He appealed to Ambassador Luther-Ogbomode to use her good office to support further collaboration and advocate for initiatives that will make Sierra Leone’s roads and road usage safer for all.
The Nigerian High Commissioner welcomed the engagement and reaffirmed the importance of strengthening bilateral relations between Sierra Leone and Nigeria, particularly in areas that directly affect the safety and wellbeing of citizens.
The meeting also provided an opportunity for both sides to explore practical areas of cooperation and build on the recent partnership between the SLRSA and FRSC.
The SLRSA continues to pursue strategic partnerships at local, regional, and international levels as part of its mandate to improve road safety, strengthen institutional capacity, and promote safer mobility across Sierra Leone.
The engagement at the Nigeria High Commission marks another step towards deepening Sierra Leone-Nigeria cooperation and translating shared road safety commitments into meaningful action.
