The Sierra Leone Ports and Harbours Authority (SLPHA) held a high-level meeting on 29 April 2026 with potential investors from the United Arab Emirates in Freetown to explore strategic investment opportunities in the country’s maritime sector.

The meeting, led by Director-General Yankuba Askia Bio, focused on plans to expand port infrastructure in key locations, including Solima, Moyamba, and Kent. Discussions also covered the revitalization of railway networks aimed at improving cargo transportation and enhancing trade efficiency across the country.

The Emirati delegation expressed strong interest in the proposed projects, with both sides committing to continued engagement toward establishing mutually beneficial investment partnerships.

The initiative represents another significant step in positioning Sierra Leone as a competitive maritime and logistics hub in the region.
