The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has launched its Strategic Development Plan (SDP) 2025-2029, a bold roadmap aimed at transforming the force into a more community-focused and service-oriented institution.

The plan signals a fundamental shift from traditional law enforcement to a participatory policing model that prioritises public trust and collaboration.

Speaking at the launch, Minister of Internal Affairs Rtd. AIG Morie Lengor (Esq.) commended Inspector General of Police, Mr. William Fayia Sellu, for his leadership in driving reforms within the SLP. He described the SDP as a progressive step toward professionalizing the police force and making it more responsive to the needs of citizens.

Inspector General Sellu, in his remarks, outlined the five strategic goals embedded in the plan, emphasising its role in strengthening community policing, accountability, and operational efficiency. He acknowledged the contributions of various stakeholders, including the Government of Sierra Leone, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), UNFPA, diplomatic missions, and local communities, in shaping the plan. Sellu urged officers to remain committed to their duty of ensuring peace and security across the country.

UNDP Resident Representative, Mr. Frederick Hans Ampiah, reaffirmed UNDP’s ongoing support for the SLP, recognising effective policing as a cornerstone of national development. He lauded the advocacy and partnership initiatives led by the SLP under Sellu’s administration and pledged continued technical and financial assistance to enhance the force’s effectiveness.

Providing insight into the plan’s development, AIG Esther Mary Kaintor-Dukuray, Director of Corporate Affairs, revealed that the SDP was meticulously designed with internal expertise and financial backing from UNDP. She emphasised that the plan reflects the SLP’s commitment to modernising policing practices and fostering greater public engagement.

With the Strategic Development Plan 2025-2029, the Sierra Leone Police takes a decisive step toward building a more inclusive, accountable, and community-driven law enforcement system that aligns with international best practices.
