The Sierra Leone Police (SLP), led by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mr William Fayia Sellu, has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening collaboration with the Sierra Leone Red Cross Society following a high-level courtesy visit at the IGP’s office in Freetown on 14 April 2026

The Red Cross delegation, led by Secretary General/CEO Mr Kpawuru E.T. Sandy, included the Director of Human Resources and Administration, Ms Mariatu Kai Kai, and the Public Health Coordinator, Mr Osman Justin Conteh.

Discussions during the meeting focused on improving coordinated responses to emergencies, particularly road traffic accidents, as well as enhancing the capacity of police personnel through targeted training and public sensitization programmes.

Speaking during the engagement, Mr Sandy highlighted the Red Cross Society’s ongoing humanitarian work across the country and stressed the need to strengthen collaboration with the SLP. He noted that effective coordination between both institutions remains critical to ensuring swift and efficient emergency response, especially along major highways.

The delegation also expressed its readiness to support the police through first aid training, volunteer services, and public awareness campaigns. It further proposed expanding joint initiatives to strategic locations, including Masiaka, Mile 91, and Bo, to improve response times and service delivery.

In response, IGP Sellu welcomed the delegation and commended the Red Cross Society for its continued humanitarian contributions. He reaffirmed the SLP’s commitment to partnerships that enhance public safety and operational effectiveness.

The IGP emphasized the importance of capacity building, noting that equipping police officers with first aid and emergency response skills would significantly improve their ability to manage accident scenes and save lives.

He further disclosed that two training programmes for new police recruits are currently ongoing at the Police Training School in Hastings and the Advanced Public Order Training School in Samu. He encouraged the Red Cross Society to liaise with his Staff Officer, ACP Ismael Keita, to coordinate the proposed training initiatives.

The meeting concluded with both institutions reaffirming their commitment to strengthening collaboration aimed at improving emergency response systems and ensuring the safety and well-being of the public.
