The communication officer attached to the Motema Police Divisional Headquarters in Nimikoro Chiefdom, Kono District, Thompson Peter Ndapi, has disclosed to this medium that the aforementioned division has recorded at least three murder cases from the beginning of this year until the 31st of January 2024.
He made the disclosure while speaking to our correspondent regarding the recent murder case that occurred at Yenekuma village in Sandor Chiefdom, Kono District, where a wife was allegedly beaten to death by her husband over a pan of coffee.
Murder, which he described as a felonious offense, is very difficult for the police to grant bail, and there is no room for compromise. “Our mandate as police is to investigate those felonious offenses and charge individuals to court when there’s enough evidence against the offender,” the communication or information officer attached to the Motema divisional headquarters stressed.
He further explained that they have charged previous murder cases they had investigated to court, and they will soon charge to court the recent one they are investigating, which involves a man identified as James Komba Sandi of Yenekuma village in Sandor Chiefdom, Kono District.
He, therefore, encouraged all and sundry not to take the law into their own hands but to always follow the due process of the law to express one’s grievances. He emphasized that following the right procedures will prevent people from committing murder, which is on the increase in the district.
