Resident Ministers have described the Regional Consultations on Local Governance as a major success, saying the engagements provided an important platform for government, local councils, traditional leaders and citizens to discuss challenges affecting governance and service delivery at the grassroots.
Resident Minister for the Northern Region, Ibrahim Jalloh, described the consultation as a major success and commended Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh for taking the local governance discussion directly to the people.
He said the engagement allowed stakeholders to openly discuss challenges and identify practical measures to improve governance and service delivery.
In the Southern Region, Resident Minister Chief John Abu expressed appreciation to the Vice President and other stakeholders for their participation. He noted that the consultation created an opportunity for communities, local councils, traditional leaders and other actors to share their experiences and concerns.
Chief Abu said the discussions would help strengthen collaboration and make local governance more responsive to the needs of citizens.
Resident Minister for the Eastern Region, Gbessay Jusu Ngobeh, also commended the initiative, describing it as an important platform for bringing together key actors in local governance.
He said the successful consultations demonstrated the importance of continued dialogue and coordination among central government, local councils, traditional authorities and communities.
For the Northwest Region, Resident Minister Umaru Bon Wurie thanked stakeholders for their contributions, saying the consultation provided valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities within local governance.
He pledged to work with other stakeholders to ensure that issues raised during the consultations are followed up and translated into meaningful action.
Following the consultations, the four Resident Ministers were inaugurated as Chairmen of their respective Regional Coordination Committees. The committees are expected to strengthen coordination among local governance actors and provide a structured mechanism for following up on issues raised during the consultations.
The committees will also support collaboration across the regions and facilitate the effective implementation of agreed priorities aimed at improving local governance and service delivery
