The National Water Resources Management Agency (NWRMA) has joined other key institutions in a three-day stakeholder engagement focused on reviewing the institutional structure of the Electricity and Water Regulatory Commission (EWRC), organized by the Public Sector Reform Unit (PSRU).
The engagement, taking place from 16 to 18 April 2026 at the Occasion Resort in Lakka, aims to strengthen regulatory frameworks, improve service delivery, and ensure that the Commission remains responsive to the evolving demands of Sierra Leone’s electricity and water sectors.
Chairman of the EWRC Board of Directors, Honourable P.K. Lansana, described the initiative as a significant step toward reforming the Commission’s operations. He noted that the review will assess a wide range of areas, including governance systems and regulatory mechanisms, with the goal of enhancing institutional efficiency.
He emphasized that the process demonstrates a strong commitment to building a more robust and accountable regulatory body capable of addressing emerging challenges in the sector.
Representing NWRMA, the Director of Legal, Regulations and Outreach, Abu Bakarr Iscandri Conteh, highlighted the importance of collaboration among institutions. He explained that regulatory bodies are established by law to address systemic gaps and ensure fairness in service delivery.
Conteh further stated that the effectiveness of such institutions largely depends on compliance, adding that strategic partnerships among stakeholders are essential to achieving this objective.
Through this engagement, the PSRU and EWRC aim to incorporate diverse stakeholder perspectives into the reform process, thereby reinforcing transparency and inclusiveness in public sector governance.
The initiative is expected to contribute to the development of a more efficient regulatory environment that promotes sustainable growth, safeguards consumer interests, and strengthens oversight in Sierra Leone’s electricity and water sectors.
