The Minister of Sports, Madam Augusta James-Teima, has reaffirmed the Government of Sierra Leone’s steadfast commitment to sports development as Team Sierra Leone prepares to participate in the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
Speaking at a press conference organized by the National Olympic Committee (NOC) on 17th July 2026, the Minister, who represented His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio, commended the NOC for its transparency, accountability, and dedication in preparing the country’s delegation for the Games.
She assured the public that Sierra Leone is fully prepared to compete alongside other Commonwealth nations, emphasizing that the government has provided the necessary support to ensure the team’s successful participation.
The madam minister encouraged the athletes to remain disciplined, uphold the principles of fair play, avoid the use of performance-enhancing drugs, and serve as worthy ambassadors of Sierra Leone throughout the competition.
Minister Augusta James-Teima also called on Sierra Leoneans to rally behind the national team through their prayers and support, expressing confidence that the athletes will represent the nation with pride and return home with honours.
The 2026 Commonwealth Games will take place in Glasgow, Scotland, from 23 July to 2 August 2026, with Team Sierra Leone expected to compete in several sporting disciplines.
