Mexico opened their campaign with a dominant 2-0 victory over South Africa in a chaotic encounter that saw three red cards, while South Korea came from behind to snatch a 2-1 win against Czech Republic with a late surge. The results leave Mexico and South Korea joint leaders of Group A on 3 points each.

The Mexico vs South Africa clash was marred by discipline issues from the outset. The match produced three red cards, disrupting South Africa’s rhythm and allowing Mexico to control proceedings. Julián Quiñones broke the deadlock before Raúl Jiménez sealed the win, giving El Tri a commanding start to the tournament.

Erik Lira anchored the midfield with composure, Roberto Alvarado provided width and creativity, and Quiñones was electric in attack, earning praise as one of Mexico’s standout performers. Despite the numerical advantage, Mexico remained clinical, converting chances and maintaining pressure until the final whistle.

In the group’s other fixture, Czech Republic stunned South Korea by taking an early 1-0 lead. But the Taeguk Warriors responded with fast, attacking football, registering 15 shots and pinning the Czechs back for long spells. Kang-in Lee orchestrated the attack in the final third with vision and dribbling, while Hwang In-beom emerged as the engine of the team. The midfielder drove South Korea forward all night, finishing with one goal and one assist to complete the comeback and secure all three points.

The late winner capped a frantic finish and underlined South Korea’s attacking intent. Their high-tempo style and quick transitions proved too much for Czech Republic to handle in the closing stages.

With both Mexico and South Korea opening with wins, Group A is already finely poised. Goal difference could become decisive as the group progresses, with both sides level on points, wins, and a +1-goal difference after the first round of matches.

The early results set up a mouth-watering top-of-the-table clash between Mexico and South Korea in the next round, while South Africa and Czech Republic will be desperate to bounce back and keep their knockout hopes alive.
