Man Remanded Over Alleged Grievous Bodily Harm and Child Torture Case

Thirty-five-year-old Abu Bakarr Jalloh has been remanded at the Male Correctional Centre in Freetown by Justice Simeon Alieu, sitting at the High Court on Siaka Stevens Street. The defendant is standing trial on two counts: causing grievous bodily harm with intent, contrary to Section 18 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861, and child torture, contrary to Section 19 of the Child Rights Act 2025 (Act No. 16 of 2025).

According to the particulars of offence, on 12 February 2026, the accused allegedly caused grievous bodily harm to Mustapha Kanu with intent to disable him.

Count two further states that on the same date and at the same location, the accused subjected Mustapha Kanu, a child, to physical violence, resulting in the amputation of both of his forearms.

When the charges were read and explained to the defendant, he pleaded not guilty.

State Prosecutor Yusuf Isaac Sesay Esq. informed the court that the prosecution would require a short adjournment to call its witnesses.

In his ruling, Justice Alieu refused bail and ordered that the defendant be remanded at the Male Correctional Centre in Freetown. The matter was adjourned to 18 June 2026 for further hearing.
