Ainsley Maitland-Niles scored a stunning 96th-minute equalizer on his Everton debut to secure a 2-2 draw against Manchester United at Hill Dickinson Stadium on Sunday.

United arrived for Round 3 of the 2026-27 Premier League desperate to build consistency, while Everton were chasing a first home win of the season.

Bryan Mbeumo put United ahead 46 seconds after half-time, but Tyrique George leveled for Everton in the 83rd minute. Benjamin Šeško then headed United back in front in the 88th, only for Maitland-Niles to smash in a late equalizer from 25 yards.

The result exposes United’s recurring problem: an inability to see out games. After leading twice, they conceded from defensive lapses and a lack of game management, dropping points they looked certain to keep.

For fans expecting a title push, it’s another familiar blow. Promising spells followed by late collapses continue to erode trust. “It hurts,” said boss Michael Carrick.

United sit 11th with 4 points. Everton are 8th with 5 points.
