Twenty-three-year-old Daniel Kamara has been sentenced to 24 months’ imprisonment at the Male Correctional Centre in Freetown by Magistrate John Manso Fornah of Pademba Road Court No. 2 after pleading guilty to a charge of larceny, contrary to Section 2 of the Larceny Act of 1916.
According to the particulars of the offence, on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at a school yard on Ferguson Street, Western Area, Freetown, Kamara stole a black bag containing a Samsung computer laptop, a Samsung A17 mobile phone, a pair of white sneakers and other assorted items, all valued at Le26, 300 and belonging to Michael Gibba Sheku Kamna.
When the charge was read and explained to him, Kamara pleaded guilty.
The prosecution, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Sorie Conteh, told the court that Kamara had no previous criminal record and was a first-time offender.
Kamara was not legally represented and pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy.
In his judgment, Magistrate Fornah noted that Kamara was a first-time offender and had pleaded for mercy. However, the magistrate also took into consideration that the complainant had been permanently deprived of property valued at Le26, 300.
Magistrate Fornah subsequently sentenced Kamara to 24 months’ imprisonment, to be served in full unless he restores the stolen property to the complainant.
The sentence followed Kamara’s guilty plea to the larceny charge.
