The Sierra Leone Senior National Team Leone Stars has on the 4th December 2021 defeated Western Rural District combined by two goals to nil in a local Friendly encounter at the Bassa town playing field.

The Friendly encounter is to keep the local players and few foreign base players that have returned home to get them fit ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations that is set to be hosted in Cameroon in January 2022, currently, the country domestic league has climaxed in its first rounds, and hope to commence on 7th January 2022.

According to the head coach of the senior national team John Keister, the Friendly encounter is basically to get the players fit ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations as the results do not matter but to get the boys fit and mentally prepared their minds for the much anticipated AFCON Showdown.

The first goals of the match came in the first half of play as Ibrahim Turay scored from a closed range that gives the visitors some hope as the host tried hard to get a goal back but the host was not clinical in front of goals as the match went to the half time Leone Stars leading by a goal to nil.

After the recess, both teams put up some brave fights but the national home base side got another goal to extend their lead by two goals to nil and the second goal kept the host frustrated with no hope of bouncing back.

The Chairman of the Rural District, Kasho Holland Cole did the kick-off of the match and host other dignitaries gathered to witness the friendly as Leone Stars continued their preparations ahead of the Africa cup Nations, on the 12th December 2021 the team will play against Western Area Home base side at the Brima Attouga Mini Stadium.

The National Senior team Leone Stars will be leaving the shores of Sierra Leone for Cameroon at the end of the month. The Nation Cup will kick off on the 9th January 2022 and 24 teams will take part in the tournament.
