With support from Partners in Health (PIH) the management of the Koidu Government Hospital (KGH) in Koidu City Kono District has urged heads of schools in the district to provide medical treatment for their schools so that their pupils will be treated freely at the Koidu Government Hospital whenever they are sick.

This pronouncement was made by the medical superintendent of the Koidu Government Hospital Dr. Daniel Lavallie in an interview with A-Z when explaining the operations of the hospital for 2022.

According to him although the free health care under the leadership of President Bio is only covering the physically challenged, aged, Ebola Survivors, under-fives, pregnant women and lactating mothers but the management of the aforementioned hospital with support from Partners in Health as a way of complementing the hard earned efforts of the free quality school education KGH is offering  free medical treatment to every pupil in Kono District hence they provide their respective medical books at the hospital.

Dr. Lavallie maintained that although the government of Sierra Leone through the Ministry of Health and Sanitation is trying tooth and nail  for  such facility  for  pupils across the country but still not yet available and his institution with support from Partners in Health has thought it prudent to extend the gesture to pupils in Kono District so that they cannot only complement the free Quality education initiative of President Bio led government but to also put the health status of pupils on a sound footing as future leaders because a healthy nation is a wealthy nation. The medical superintendent of the Koidu Government Hospital lauded  PIH for such  intervention he recalled when some of them while schooling benefited from similar gesture, noting pupils nowadays also should benefit from similar facility.  He urged the respective heads of schools in Kono District to respect the process by strictly monitoring the provision and use of the said school medical books so that no sickness will prevent the pupils from going to school now that the Free Quality school Education has made tremendous impacts or progress in the district and the country as a whole.

He therefore entreated the government of Sierra Leone to maintain such initiative by doing more.
