In a decisive effort to address rising road traffic accidents, the Bo District Council has officially relocated the Tipper Drivers Union from its former hazardous parking site to a newly designated and safer location behind the MIB Complex in the Sami 1 Community.

The relocation, which included the formal handover of four town plots on April 17, 2026, follows repeated reports linking the union’s previous base to fatal accidents, traffic congestion, and property damage.

According to authorities, the move forms part of broader measures aimed at improving road safety and restoring order within Bo District.

Chairman of the Bo District Council, Victor Korseh Hindowa, described the relocation as both timely and necessary. He reaffirmed the council’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property and commended the Tipper Drivers Union for its cooperation throughout the process. He also urged members of the union to comply with local tax obligations, noting that such contributions are essential for community development.

Providing administrative details, Chief Administrator Madam Vivian Senesie explained that the decision was based on consistent accident reports and safety assessments conducted over time. She noted that the new site in Sami 1 Community offers a more structured and secure environment for tipper operations, significantly reducing risks associated with the previous location.

The initiative has received widespread support from both local and national stakeholders. Chief Whip of Parliament, Hon. Dixon Rogers, praised the council’s proactive leadership, describing it as a strong example of effective collaboration between local and central government authorities.

Mayor of Bo City Council, Musa Kobba, also welcomed the relocation, stating that it would help ease traffic congestion and improve public safety within the municipality. He emphasized the importance of continued cooperation among councils for effective urban planning and management.

Resident Minister South, Chief John Abu, further commended the move, describing it as a people-centered initiative aligned with the government’s decentralization agenda and commitment to responsive governance.

The Local Unit Commander of the Bo West Police Division assured the public of continued enforcement of traffic regulations. He added that the new site would enable better monitoring and regulation of tipper operations, thereby strengthening road safety enforcement.

The relocation has been widely welcomed by the community. Civil society organizations, Paramount Chiefs, and local leaders from Tinkonko Chiefdom have all expressed strong support for the initiative. Councillor Kalilu John-Bull stated that the impact of the move could extend beyond Bo District and serve as a model for other regions facing similar challenges.

In response, the Chairman of the Tipper Drivers Union expressed appreciation to the council and its partners for the intervention. He pledged the union’s commitment to strictly adhering to safety protocols and operational guidelines at the new site.
