As part of engagements with various stakeholders ahead of the June 2023 election, a team of European Union election observers in Sierra Leone on 19th May 2023 paid a courtesy call on the Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Mamadi Gobeh Kamara.

Led by Evin Inclir, the team is part of a 28-member, long-term, and 40 short-term observer missions that will be monitoring the June 24th general election.

In a brief statement, the head of the team, Evin Inclair, said that the mission is in Sierra Leone to assess the country’s level of preparedness for the June 24th election while also looking at the progress made with the implementation of recommendations made by the EU observers in 2018.

The Deputy Foreign Minister in her response catalogued the gains made by the President Bio-led government with electoral and judicial reforms, Media freedom, Women’s empowerment, good governance, and the rule of law among others.

She further informed the team that a lot of progress has been made with the implementation of the 2018 recommendations by the EU.

The Deputy Foreign Minister reiterated the government’s strong commitment to ensuring a level playing field for the conduct of a peaceful, credible, and free election.

She thanked the EU for their continuous support of the development strides of Sierra Leone and assured them of the government’s cooperation at all times.
