The ongoing legal matter between the State and APC presidential aspirant Yeabu Zainab Sheriff has reached its final stage, with judgment scheduled for today, April 14, 2026. Both the prosecution and defence submitted their final written addresses on Friday, April 10, 2026, as directed by Magistrate Mustapha Braima Jah of Court No. 1 in Freetown.
The defendant is standing trial on two counts.
Count One -Incitement Contrary to Law: According to the particulars of the offence, Yeabu Zainab Sheriff allegedly made inciting statements on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at the Brima Attouga Mini Stadium in Freetown, within the Freetown Judicial District. She is accused of encouraging violence, including the killing of individuals alleged to have rigged elections.
Count Two implied threatening Language Contrary to Section 30(1) of the Public Order Act 1965: The prosecution further alleges that on the same date and at the same venue, the defendant used threatening and inflammatory language, including the statement:
“Clearly election don don and you nor get more money than me, you rogue election and cheat a whole eight million people dem and kill people dem and send dem go jail, we go send message say nobody nor go cheat an entire eight million people and proudly go free.”
According to police reports, the statements were deemed inciting and capable of encouraging violence against individuals accused of electoral malpractice.
Both the State and the defence submitted their final written addresses in accordance with the court’s directive. Defence counsel filed a no-case submission, while the prosecution submitted a reply on Friday, April 10, 2026.
The matter is now set for judgment today, April 14, 2026
