Three light bulbs have been donated to Court No. 8 after concerns were raised about poor lighting in the courtroom.

The donation was made by private legal practitioner, Counsel Emmanuel M. Kamara of Gbanthkedie Chambers, who noticed during proceedings on Wednesday, 1 July 2026, that the court’s lighting system was not functioning properly.

In an unusual but notable court moment, Counsel Kamara sought permission from Magistrate Adama Jalloh to address the court, not to request a hearing date, but to donate.

His request drew the attention of the magistrate, who granted him permission to proceed.

Addressing the court, Counsel Kamara stated: “My Lady, considering the poor lighting system in this court, I hereby donate these bulbs to improve the lighting conditions.”

Counsel S. M. Sesay of Sahid Sesay & Partners, who was also present in court, requested to be joined as an “interested party” in the donation. He also commended Counsel Kamara for the gesture.

Magistrate Adama Jalloh expressed appreciation for the donation and noted that it would have been more beneficial had the gesture been made earlier in the day when more lawyers were present to witness it.

This is not the first time Counsel Emmanuel M. Kamara has made such a contribution. He previously donated a ceiling fan to Court No. 6 to improve ventilation.

The gesture has been described as a positive example of professional goodwill, with calls for other legal practitioners to emulate similar acts to support and improve court facilities in Sierra Leone.
