China and the United States have reached consensus on a range of outcomes following Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit, with both sides agreeing to strengthen cooperation in economic and trade affairs, law enforcement, artificial intelligence and military communication.
The two sides recognized the positive role of the China-US economic and trade consultation mechanism and endorsed the outcomes reached by their respective economic and trade teams. These include establishing and advancing the Board of Trade and other mechanisms, implementing an arrangement for a $30 billion reciprocal tariff reduction, and extending the outcomes of previous economic and trade consultations held in Kuala Lumpur.
China and the United States also noted progress in cooperation between their counter-narcotics and law enforcement agencies. According to the agreement, the two countries have recently worked closely to crack multiple cases involving New Psychoactive Substances and precursor chemicals, resulting in the apprehension of dozens of suspects in both countries.
The two sides further agreed to establish a China-US AI Dialogue to exchange views on the risks and benefits associated with artificial intelligence. The next exchange is scheduled for November 2026, while both countries will also establish a bilateral communication channel for AI-related incidents.
The United States also welcomed the arrival of two giant pandas leased by China to Zoo Atlanta.
Meanwhile, the Chinese and US militaries agreed to conclude a memorandum of understanding on crisis communication and prevention as soon as possible. The two sides will also continue cooperation in efforts to search for the remains of missing US servicemembers in China.
The agreement also highlighted the historical cooperation between the two countries, including their shared efforts during the war, as part of the broader context of China-US relations.
