Aruna Fornah Opray, a businessman, made another appearance before Magistrate Santigie Bangura of Pademba Road Court No.2 in Freetown on a private criminal sermon on two count charges: fraudulent conversion Contrary to Section 20 (1) (iv) (b) of the Larceny Act 1916 and Obtaining money by false pretenses contrary to section 32 (1) of the Larceny Act 1916.
According to the particulars of the offense, sometime in June 2024, at #15 Freetown Road Goderich, in the western area of Freetown, the fraudulently converted to his own use or benefit one Sprinter vehicle with registration number AVC 775, valued at two hundred and fifty thousand Leones (25,000), which was entrusted to him by the complainant herein for the purpose of running transport.
The count further stated that on the same date and place, the accused person obtained the sum of one thousand United States dollars from the complainant by falsely pretending that he would service her vehicle, knowing the same was false.
No plea was taken when the charges were read and explained to the accused person.
Counsel representing the accused person, Thomas Moore Conteh, renewed and adopted his previous Bail applications on behalf of the accused person.
Meanwhile, Magistrate Bangura granted bail to the accused in the sum of three hundred thousand Leones with two sureties in like sum sureties to be resident in Freetown sureties to produce valid identity card depicting his or her address in Freetown bail to be approved by the Deputy Assistant Registrar Matter adjourned to the 13th November 2024.
