According to official results announced in Gbangbama, Katekpeh secured 591 votes, representing 54.72 percent of the total ballots cast. His main opponent, Solomon Alfred, obtained 489 votes, accounting for 45.25 percent. The narrow margin reflects the competitiveness of the race and the strong participation of voters.

The results were declared by the Provincial Secretary for the Southern Province, Abubakaar Kamara, who also served as the National Returning Officer for the election. Kamara commended both candidates and the people of Imperi Chiefdom for maintaining peace and order throughout the electoral process. He noted that the successful conduct of the election demonstrates the community’s commitment to democratic values and effective local governance. He further assured that the outcome would be formally communicated to the central government in line with established procedures.

Katekpeh’s victory has been widely described as both inspiring and symbolic, particularly given his background in the education sector. Prior to becoming Paramount Chief, he served as Head Teacher of RC Gedema, where he earned a reputation for discipline, dedication, and community service. His journey from the classroom to the highest traditional authority in the chiefdom highlights a story of perseverance and steady progress.

Many observers see his election as a testament to the idea that leadership can emerge from service-oriented professions such as teaching. It also sends a strong message about patience, commitment, and the importance of community service, especially for young people aspiring to leadership roles.

In response to his victory, supporters and well-wishers expressed optimism about his leadership, noting that his experience in education could bring a more people-centered approach to governance in Imperi Chiefdom. They also encouraged him to remain connected to his roots in education, which they believe played a key role in shaping his leadership qualities.

Observers further believe that his administration presents an opportunity to strengthen community development, improve local governance, and foster unity within the chiefdom. As he assumes office, expectations remain high that he will translate his experience and values into tangible progress for the people of Imperi.

Brown Jonathan Katekpeh now steps into his new role at a time when traditional leadership continues to play a vital role in grassroots development and social cohesion in Sierra Leone. His tenure is expected not only to uphold the traditions of Imperi Chiefdom but also to embrace progressive ideas that will benefit future generations.
