On the fifth day of the nationwide Ebola vaccination campaign, a remarkable display of leadership and commitment unfolded in Bo District as Dr. Amara Steven Ngegbai, District Medical Officer (DMO) of the Bo District Health Management Team (DHMT), received his Ebola vaccine at Mercy Hospital.
Dr. Ngegbai was accompanied by Dr. Morie Vandi, the Medical Superintendent (MS) of Mercy Hospital, in what was hailed as a significant moment in the ongoing fight against the deadly virus. By stepping forward to receive the vaccine, Dr. Ngegbai demonstrated the importance of personal protection among health professionals, who remain on the frontlines of the battle against Ebola.
This bold move resonated deeply with health workers at Mercy Hospital, many of whom were inspired to follow his example. The visible commitment of the district’s top medical officer not only boosted morale but also emphasized the critical role of vaccinations in safeguarding lives.
“The safety and well-being of our health workers are non-negotiable. By taking the vaccine, I want to assure everyone that it is safe and necessary,” Dr. Ngegbai remarked, urging his colleagues and community members to embrace the campaign.
Dr. Vandi echoed similar sentiments, commending the DMO for his leadership and calling on healthcare workers and the public to prioritize their health through vaccination.
The Ebola vaccination campaign, which has already seen widespread support across Bo District, is a key component of Sierra Leone’s strategy to combat Ebola outbreaks. The involvement of senior health officials like Dr. Ngegbai has been pivotal in dispelling vaccine hesitancy and reinforcing confidence among the general population.
As the campaign continues, the DHMT and Mercy Hospital remain steadfast in their efforts to ensure that all eligible individuals in the district receive the vaccine. With dedicated leadership and community collaboration, the fight against Ebola is gaining renewed strength in Bo.
