Lawyer, youth advocate and social change campaigner Ansumana Keita has been nominated among the 100 Most Impactful Sierra Leonean Leaders Awards 2026, recognizing his more than a decade of work in youth empowerment, civic engagement, leadership development and community advocacy.
The recognition, organised by the West Africa Youth and Children’s Advocacy Network, places Keita among Sierra Leoneans being recognized for their contributions to leadership and national development.
For Keita, the nomination represents more than an individual achievement. It comes against the backdrop of years of work aimed at empowering young people, promoting patriotism, strengthening civic responsibility and preparing a new generation of leaders.
Ansumana Keita is a lawyer, youth advocate, activist and social change campaigner, best known as the founder and leader of the Patriotic Advocacy Network Sierra Leone (PAN).
According to PAN, Keita founded the organization at the age of 17. It has since developed into a nationwide youth-focused civic movement with more than 1,500 members.
PAN promotes patriotism, national unity, civic responsibility, national consciousness and positive social change, with young people at the centre of its activities.
Keita’s leadership journey has also been shaped by his academic background in Mass Communication and Law, combining communication, advocacy and legal knowledge in his engagement with young people and communities.
One of the defining features of Keita’s work has been his focus on developing young people beyond speeches and public appearances.
Through PAN, he has championed programmes designed to build confidence, leadership capacity, communication skills and civic responsibility among young Sierra Leoneans.
A major initiative is the Leadership and Public Speaking Masterclass (LPMC), which was introduced in 2024 after PAN identified gaps in leadership and communication skills among young people.
The first edition trained and certified 100 participants, while the 2025 edition trained 150. In 2026, another 150 young people were selected from more than 400 applicants.
The 2026 edition expanded its focus beyond public speaking to include leadership, critical thinking, problem-solving, emotional intelligence, financial management, work ethic and the ethical use of artificial intelligence.
The programme reflects a central aspect of Keita’s approach to leadership: preparing young people with practical skills and knowledge to take up leadership responsibilities.
Keita’s youth advocacy also extends to schools and community-based initiatives.
In August 2026, he facilitated a session on youth, leadership and peacebuilding during a Peace, Integrity and Leadership Training organised under the Catch Them Young initiative.
The programme, supported by the Anti-Corruption Commission, brought together pupils from seven schools in the Western Area and focused on integrity, accountability, peace and responsible citizenship.
His involvement in youth development therefore goes beyond leadership training, with much of his work centred on helping young people understand their responsibilities and use their voices constructively.
PAN has also been associated with initiatives including Public Speaking for Girls, the National Storytelling Festival, the Building A Nation Campaign, as well as patriotism and peacebuilding activities.
PAN was established in 2013 and has remained active for more than a decade. In February 2026, the organization opened its first permanent office in Freetown, which marked another step in its institutional development.
Keita’s work has also received recognition previously. In 2022, he received an award for his contribution to youth development at the National Youth and Leadership Summit organised by the Youths and Children Advocacy Panel.
The 2026 nomination therefore comes after years of youth-focused advocacy, leadership training, community engagement and institution-building.
While the specific selection criteria for the 2026 Most Impactful Leaders Awards have not been publicly detailed in the sources reviewed, Keita’s documented activities provide context for his inclusion among the nominees.
The significance of Keita’s nomination lies not only in the recognition itself but also in the work associated with his leadership journey.
Through PAN and other initiatives, he has created platforms for young people to develop their leadership and communication skills while encouraging greater participation in civic and community affairs.
At the conclusion of PAN’s 2026 Leadership and Public Speaking Masterclass, Keita reminded participants that effective leadership requires responsibility, discipline and sacrifice—values that have featured prominently in his advocacy.
His nomination among the 100 Most Impactful Sierra Leonean Leaders of 2026 comes against a record of more than a decade of youth advocacy, the development of a national civic network, leadership training and continued investment in young people.
For Keita, leadership appears to be measured not simply by the position one occupies, but by the people one empowers and the institutions one helps build.
His journey continues to centre on creating opportunities for young Sierra Leoneans to become more confident, informed and prepared to contribute to the future of their country.
