The Africell Mobile Company in Sierra Leone and the Sports Writers Association of Sierra Leone has on the 22nd September signed an MOU at Bathurst Street in Freetown.
According to Joe Abass Bangura the head of Cooperate affairs for Africell Mobile Company in Sierra Leone said;
“This MOU will have to cover the latest local Sports updates in the Country and Customers just need to subscribe to a simple code by sending a message to 392 the Customer immediately you will subscribe for the service at a cost of three Hundred Leones.”
He added that it will also cover news about our Local Sports personality both home and abroad via SMS, due to the high profile sports people outside and the World needs to know about those people and that is the more reason Africell decides to partner with SWASAL.
The President of the Sports Writers Association of Sierra Leone, Sahr Morris Jr said
” Today event is not only a special moment for Sports Writers Association of Sierra Leone, but an historic moment for telecommunications and Sports Journalism in the new age of mobile Journalism aiding of Sports reporting in Sierra Leone.”
He added that since Africell Mobile Company started operations in Sierra Leone in 2005, the Company continue to grow in all areas and they are now a brand, but synonymous with Sports.
SWASAL President further said that the event is to strengthen the partnership between telecommunication giants and the parents body of Sports Journalism in Sierra Leone the oldest and most Vibrant affiliate body to the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ).
In 2015 Africell Mobile Company in the Gambia help (SJAG) enjoyed the Africell Sporting gesture as Africell the Gambia ferried 20 of their members, both Print and Electronic media to cover and report the match between Scorpions of the Gambia and Senegal for the first round of the qualifiers for the 2016 Africa Nation Championship.
Mr. Morris called on his colleagues Sports Journalists to make use of the opportunity and rebrand Sports reporting in Sierra Leone.
Two years ago on September 2019, Africell provide supports to SWASAL to provide live Commentary in the FIFA WORLD Cup qualifiers in Liberia and in June 2021 they also help Sports Journalists to cover the decisive AFCON qualifiers against Benin where Journalists run Commentary on the live match from Guinea.
