Sierra Leonean midfielder Mohamed Kamara has secured a permanent move to Swedish club IFK Värnamo after the club exercised its option to sign him from AIK Freetong.
The 18-year-old joined IFK Värnamo on loan ahead of the 2026 season and has impressed during his time with the club, despite missing a period through injury.
Kamara has made 11 appearances in the Swedish Superettan, including one start, and his progress has convinced Värnamo to secure his services on a long-term basis.
The club has confirmed that the young midfielder has signed a five-year contract, with his permanent transfer officially taking effect on January 1, 2027.
IFK Värnamo men’s sporting director Jörgen Petersson praised Kamara’s development and highlighted the qualities that convinced the club to invest in his future.
“Kamara has taken great steps in his development, both on and off the pitch. His drive and ambition in training, combined with his confidence on the ball and passing ability, have already demonstrated qualities that we believe strongly in,” Petersson said.
He added that the club sees “great potential for development” in Kamara and expressed delight at having the opportunity to make his loan move permanent.
Kamara said he was happy to continue his career with the Swedish club, praising his teammates and the wider environment at Värnamo.
“I feel glad and very happy to be a part of IFK Värnamo. I really like my teammates; there are also very nice people around the team and throughout the club. I also like the city of Värnamo, and I am very happy to be here,” he said.
“I will do my best every day to help the club achieve the goals they have set.”
Kamara will officially become a permanent IFK Värnamo player on January 1, 2027, marking another important step in the young Sierra Leonean’s development and his growing experience in European football.
