The Chinese Construction Company, operating in Sierra Leone, has officially handed over certain facilities of the Siaka Stevens Stadium Rehabilitation project to the Ministry of Sports and the National Sports Authority (NSA).
The event took place at the Stadium Rehabilitation Centre in Freetown, attended by key stakeholders in sports.
During her address, Minister of Sports Madam Augusta expressed gratitude to the Chinese Construction Company, highlighting that this partial handover represents a significant milestone for Sierra Leone’s treasured national asset. She noted that while some renovation work is still ongoing, the partial opening demonstrates steady progress and a shared commitment to providing world-class facilities for the people of Sierra Leone.
The Minister also took the opportunity to thank the Government of the Republic of China, emphasizing the collaborative effort between the two countries in infrastructure development.
She confirmed that a private partnership will manage the day-to-day operations of Siaka Stevens Stadium.
Mohamed Apan Conteh Esq., Executive Director of the NSA, expressed pride in representing various sporting disciplines at the event. He stated that it would be a moment of pride for him when the rehabilitation project is fully completed under his tenure, marking an achievement not only for the NSA but also for the youth of the country. He acknowledged the shared dream of all involved the government, the Minister, the Board, and the team and emphasized the importance of working together to accomplish it.
The partial handover of Siaka Stevens Stadium will allow Sierra Leoneans to return to the facilities and utilize them for their intended purposes, addressing the growing concerns about the delays in renovation.
