The Presidential Hajj Task Force has conducted a comprehensive orientation session for 826 intending pilgrims at the Gaddafi Mosque as part of preparations for this year’s Hajj pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Task Force, Murtada Mohamed Sesay, commended the Government of Sierra Leone for supporting the initiative. He noted that contingency plans have been developed to address any uncertainties surrounding the Hajj, ensuring a smooth experience for pilgrims.

Sesay explained that the orientation was designed to equip participants with the knowledge needed to manage potential challenges and successfully complete the pilgrimage. He emphasized the importance of relying on accurate information, urging pilgrims to depend only on official sources rather than hearsay. He also advised them to demonstrate humility, patience, and tolerance, and cautioned against any behavior that could disrupt order during the pilgrimage.

Also addressing the gathering, Dyphan A. Massaquoi, Head of Operations and Support Services, disclosed that this year’s Hajj preparations began earlier than usual. He stated that registrations have been completed, medical screenings conducted, and verified data submitted to Saudi authorities for visa processing.

According to Massaquoi, pilgrims are expected to depart within two weeks. He added that the two-day orientation covered both theoretical briefings and practical demonstrations of Hajj rites. He acknowledged previous challenges, including delays in registration, visa issuance, and information management, but noted that reforms have been introduced to address these issues.

Providing religious guidance, Umar Farouk Bah, Principal of Ansarr College, explained the spiritual significance of Hajj and Umrah. He emphasized that Hajj is a compulsory act of worship for Muslims who are physically and financially able. He encouraged pilgrims to remain focused on their spiritual obligations and avoid distractions to fully benefit from the experience.

One of the intending pilgrims, Fadima Sow, expressed appreciation to the Task Force for organizing the orientation, describing it as timely and informative. She said the sessions had deepened her understanding of the pilgrimage and expressed joy at being close to fulfilling one of the core pillars of Islam.

The orientation forms part of ongoing efforts by the Presidential Hajj Task Force to ensure a smooth, well-coordinated, and spiritually fulfilling pilgrimage for Sierra Leonean Muslims.
