Leone Rock Mental Group disbursed $4.3 Million Community Development Agreement to host communities in Tonkolili. His Excellency the President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, Dr Julius Maada Bio, presided over the event at Leone Rock Metal Group, marking two major achievements in the country’s mining sector in Tonkolili.
The first milestone was the payment of the 2026 Community Development Agreement (CDA). A total of $4.3 million (over 99 million Leones) was disbursed to host communities. This payment reflects the government’s continued commitment to ensuring that communities benefit directly from the exploitation of their natural resources.
The second milestone was the commissioning of the second 10 million tonnes-per-annum Magnetite Processing Plant at Leone Rock Metal Group. This expansion significantly boosts the company’s production and processing capacity, strengthening Sierra Leone’s position in the mineral industry.
President Bio described both developments as significant achievements for both Leone Rock Metal Group and the country. He emphasized that the CDA payment demonstrates the tangible benefits of mining activities for local communities, while the new processing plant represents industrial growth and increased investment in the sector.
The ceremony highlighted the government’s dual focus on community development and industrial expansion, reinforcing efforts to ensure that mining activities contribute to both local livelihoods and national economic growth.
