The Old Edwardians Now Club in the diaspora on Wednesday, 21 January 2026, donated cash support to 44 former players of Old Edwardians Football Club, as well as to the club’s Best Player for the year 2025.

The donation ceremony took place at the school grounds in Kingtom, Freetown, and was attended by former players, club officials, and supporters.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Patrick Dixon, Vice President of the Old Edwardians Now Club, assured the current players that the organization would increase incentives if the team performs well in the National League this year. He encouraged the players to give their best and strive to win the league title.

Mr. Dixon explained that the donation was intended to motivate both former and current players, stressing that the organization remains committed to supporting them. He recalled that Old Edwardians finished sixth in the league last season and urged the team to improve on that performance by clinching the trophy this year.

The Vice President disclosed that the funds donated were raised through monthly contributions of twenty United States dollars (US$20) from 22 members of the diaspora-based organization. He appealed to other former players living abroad to join the initiative and contribute to the club’s development.

Founded in 1980, the Old Edwardians Now Club has been making annual donations to former players since 2016. Mr. Dixon recounted that his deep passion for the club once moved him to tears when Old Edwardians suffered a 6–0 defeat to the Ports Authority team, a setback he attributed to financial challenges at the time.

He further revealed plans to establish the *Nahim Khadi Foundation*, which will provide scholarships to pupils of the school who excel academically and in sports.

According to Mr. Dixon, the beneficiaries of the donation were selected from the ex-players’ executive body in Freetown. He also encouraged former players to initiate income-generating projects to promote self-reliance, assuring them that the organization would support such initiatives as long as transparency and accountability are maintained.

He urged ex-players to hold regular monthly meetings to strengthen unity and preserve the bond among members, reiterating that the organization remains ready to assist whenever possible.

Some of the beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the gesture and pledged to use the funds responsibly. The highlight of the ceremony was the distribution of cash to the beneficiaries.
