In a disturbing incident that has raised serious public health concerns, officers from the Bo West Division Operations Unit have arrested three women for allegedly adulterating palm oil with an unidentified chemical substance.
The arrests took place on Monday, July 8, 2025, at approximately 1:00 PM on Sam Street in Bo. Acting on credible intelligence, the Operations Minor Team, led by Sergeant 9582 Morlu A, apprehended the suspects Fatmata Kassaquoi, Fatmata Kamara, and Mariatu Turay at the scene while they were allegedly mixing the chemical with the palm oil.
Preliminary police investigations revealed that the suspects were in possession of 83 bottles and one and a half large containers of palm oil believed to have been tampered with. Samples of the adulterated substance have been collected and sent for laboratory analysis to identify the chemical involved and assess potential health risks.
Speaking to the press following the arrest, Sergeant Morlu emphasized the gravity of the situation. “This is a serious matter concerning food safety and public health. We are currently investigating the source of the chemical, the motive behind its use, and whether the contaminated oil was intended for public consumption,” he stated.
The Local Unit Commander, Chief Superintendent Joseph Honor Kamara, has received commendation for his continued dedication to proactive policing and rapid response strategies throughout the Bo West Division. His leadership has been instrumental in ensuring community safety and crime prevention in the region.
The three suspects are currently in police custody and are assisting with ongoing investigations. Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities especially those involving food products or possible chemical misuse to the nearest police station.
