MEYA Mining Company Commences Skill Training Programs For Young Women

The MEYA MINING Skills Training program for young women in cake making, Baking and Decorations has commenced at the skills training center Koakoyima village Tankoro chiefdom Kono district.

In an interview with our correspondent, the community Relations manager MEYA MINING COMPANY Catherine Finda Green Wood maintained that the said pilot project which is funded by the company is to empower and educate affected young women in all their operational areas in Kono district thereby bringing self-employment to their door steps in order for them to be self-reliant at the end of the day.

She reiterated that as the MEYA MINING COMPANY cannot provide employment for everyone in its operational areas in the district, but the skills training will in no doubt create self-employment for the affected young women especially in the company’s operational areas in the district.

Madam Green Wood pointed out that people especially young women dwelling within what she called the mining BofA zone of at least five hundred meters that are affected by either noise and dust due to the operations of the mining company are those the program caters for noting the ongoing skills training is the very first pilot phase and that the success of it will be showed case as one of the company’s bench marks so that more of it will be done in the not too distance future.

The community Relations manager MEYA MINING COMPANY further noted that the first set of trainees after the training will be provided shops for the marketing of their products. She said the trainers who are well qualified owing to local content policy were hired from the district and that plans are afoot by the company under the skills training program to have advance training for their trainers for the sustainability of the skills training program.

She commended those undergoing the training for the display of seriousness and intelligence in the ongoing training ten percent theory and 90% percent practical in cake making, baking and decorations program.

Whilst urging the trainees to be useful thereby impacting their respective communities after the training program Catherine Finda Green Wood intimated to this medium that at the end of the ongoing training sustainability package which include: funds and support will be given to the trainees. She implored them to serve as Ambassadors for the MEYA MINING SKILLS TRAINING PROGRAM.

Meanwhile, the said program is expected to benefit affected young women in all MEYA MINING COMPANY operational areas in Kono district: Kamara, Nimikoro, Tankoro and Gbense chiefdoms.
