The Public Relations Officer of Civil Society in Bo District, Joseph Blackie has said that the main Opposition Members of Parliament should put the country first by going to parliament to represent their people.

Speaking to A-Z Newspaper, Mr. Blackie said that the decision of the APC to boycott parliamentary proceedings and above all witholding their participation in Governance is not good for the country.

According to him, it was the people who voted them into power to represent them and it is expected that they do the needful.

Mr. Blackie said that the opposition has a critical role to play in the governance of the country and if they have grievances against the 2023 election, they should seek redress in court.

He said that the MPs should execute their duties without fear or favour while providing their oversight functions, adding that any member of committees in parliament who do not measure up to the expectations of the people should be changed by the speaker of Parliament.

He said that MPs should not take bribes while performing their oversight functions as parliament was on record for taking bribe, an allegation the speaker of Parliament had vehemently denied.

“It doesn’t mean when I am calling on APC members of Parliament to go to parliament ,I belong to SLPP, but I just want to see Mps in parliament to make good laws and provide oversight functions”,he said, adding that ‘ I don’t belong to any political party”.

Some residents of Bo who posed to be members of the APC said that the leadership of the APC should do the needful to ensure that the MPs surface in parliament.

They described Hon Bangura and Hon Thompson to be real patriotic citizens who have put the country first instead of their party.

Brima Koroma said “I remain to be APC but let us work towards moving the country forward by providing a construction opposition in Parliament.”
